Francis Richter

Co-founder and general manager of Diletto, online deli
Francis Richter (26) is the co-founder and general manager of Diletto, an online deli specialising in premium delicacies and gifts.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Francis is named after Saint Francis of Assisi; the patron saint of animals and his earliest memory is walking around in Kirstenbosch Gardens with his family. Francis attended the Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt, Tamboerskloof Primary, Camps Bay High and later graduated from the University of South Africa with a B-Comm. degree and majored in management.
Prior to becoming the co-founder of Diletto, Francis’ previous work experiences include an internship at the Department of Sport and Cultural Affairs, working in the sales department of Calls United, served as a waitor at Carlucci’s and a barman all the way in Scotland at the Kenmore Hotel. Since high school, Francis dreamed of owning a business and soon picked up on the trend of online shopping which he coupled with his passion for fine food and wine. In 2007, Francis founded Diletto with his friend, Martin Lompa whom he met while at primary school and they officially launched Diletto to the online shopping sphere in August 2008. When asked about what he enjoys most his job, Francis says, "Being independent and working for myself at my own pace in an industry that I am very passionate about."
Francis draws his inspiration from hearing about other people’s success stories and if he ever had the opportunity to dine with five famous people, his guest list would include Richard Branson, Albert Einstein, Spartan King Leonidas, Leonardo da Vinci and Helen Zille. Once the sun sets and the work-day is over, Francis enjoys reading business and fantasy books, listening to hip-hop, alternative rock and heavy metal music and watching movies, listing some of his favourites as Pulp Fiction, 300, Sin City, Star Wars and Hitler, The Rise of Evil. Sunday is Francis’ favourite day of the week, as he normally sets off on a long hike or participates in other activities including mountain-biking, body-boarding, kayaking or food and wine tasting. He enjoys indulging in pizza, chocolate chilli steak, a good old salami sandwich with cheese and German mustard or coming home to his fiancé’s supper.
Namibia, Switzerland and Scotland are currently Francis’ favourite travel destinations and if he could live anywhere else but Cape Town, he would pick either Switzerland or Scotland. Francis admits that his family and fiancé have been the greatest influences on his life so far and shares his motto that, "Everything in life is about getting enough balance in every respect."
Martin Lompa

Co-founder and technical manager of Diletto, online deli
Martin Lompa (28) is the co-founder and technical manager of Diletto, an online deli specialising in premium delicacies and gifts.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Martin’s earliest childhood memory is climbing the jacaranda tree in his backyard and enjoying himself on the swing placed in the passageway of their home at the time. Martin attended the Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt, Oude Molen Technical High and later obtained a University of Cambridge IT Engineering diploma through CTI. However, Martin’s involvement in electronics began at the age of ten, and his interest in computers and IT started at the age of 16. Immediately after completing high school, Martin was employed within the security industry before officially commencing with his studies.
Martin worked for Eagle Technology for over ten years, starting out as an IT technician, progressing to an IT and network engineer and finally being promoted to sales management. With a growing interest developing in business and investing, Martin discovered that there was someone else who shared his vision and interest. In 2007, Martin founded Diletto with his friend, Francis Richter whom he met while at primary school. Diletto was officially launched to the online shopping sphere in August 2008. When quizzed about the aspects that he enjoys most about his job, he says, "The daily challenges and opportunities that it brings."
Inspired by the power of the human mind, Martin’s greatest influence on his life so far, has come from the book, Rich Dad Poor Dad and successful businessmen including Richard Branson and Warren Buffet. If Martin had the opportunity to dine with five famous people, his guest list would include Hitler, Einstein, Edison, Rockefeller Senior and Mozart. Martin is a self-confessed adrenalin addict and when duty isn’t calling at the office, he can be found mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling or bridge swinging. He also enjoys watching movies of all genres and lists some of his favourites as Boondock Saints, The Green Mile, The Matrix, Shawshank Redemption, Ice Age and Shrek.
Swakopmund is Martin’s favourite travel destination to date and if he ever had to choose another place to live, other than Cape Town, it would be in the most remote part of the Cederberg Mountains. Martin enjoys indulging in sushi and blueberry cheesecake ice cream, and cannot go a day without the view of Table Mountain. Martin’s motto in life, "If you say you can, you can. If you say cannot, you’re right."
Lila Richter

Lila Richter (23) is the Online Editor of Diletto, an online deli specialising in premium delicacies and gifts.
Lila was born and raised in Cape Town City Bowl right under Table Mountain's nose and attended Jan van Riebeeck from primary school to matric. Since a very early age, Lila has been enthralled by culture - language, food, music, dance - anything that defines a people. She studied English and Romance Literatures in English at the University of South Africa with minors in history and ancient civilizations.
Prior to being involved with Diletto, Lila worked in book publishing as well as online publishing within the Media24 group. Her greatest passion in life is Animal Rights and she is a committed Vegetarian. She remembers visiting her godmother's sheep farm in the Northern Cape Province and witnessing the sheep slaughter. What saddened her most was that the animals had a will to live, just as any human would have. Lila met Francis in August 2005 and met Martin in December of that year. Their collective passion for quality food has kept them together and Lila now regularly writes content for the website.
Lila is most inspired by her uncle, who came from a small town in the Eastern Cape and now dominates the Italian motorcycle design industry. She says that he has taught her that any dream can be fulfilled. She enjoys travelling through South Africa with her husband, but her favourite travel destination is Europe, especially the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. If Lila could invite any five people to have dinner with her they would be: Albert Schweitzer, Vincent van Gogh, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, Brigitte Bardot and her late grandmother, Ina Terblanche. When she's not working Lila enjoys cooking and baking, looking for treasures at flea markets and relaxing with a good book. Her favourite author is Jeffrey Masson followed closely by JK Rowling for the escapism she creates. Her favourite movies include Year of the Dog, Amelie and Darjeeling LTD. Lila lives with her husband and three rescued cats - Myrtle, Djudju and Alex.
Lila lives by the motto "do unto others only what you want done to yourself" |
